Gunung Tahan, standing at 7,175 ft (2,187 m) above sea level, is the highest peak in Peninsular Malaysia and offers one of the most challenging trekking experiences in Southeast Asia. Nestled within the vast and ancient Taman Negara National Park, this mountain lies in the state of Pahang, forming part of the Tahan Range in the Tenasserim Hills.

Gunung Tahan’s remote location and rugged terrain make it a bucket-list destination for serious hikers and adventure seekers. It’s renowned for its difficulty, often regarded as the toughest trek in Peninsular Malaysia, demanding both physical endurance and mental toughness.

The journey to the summit isn’t just about reaching the peak; it’s an immersive experience through lush rainforests, river crossings, and diverse ecosystems. Along the trail, hikers can expect to encounter rare wildlife, pristine rivers, and breathtaking mountain views.

There are two primary routes to tackle Gunung Tahan:

1. Kuala Tahan Route (9 Days, 100 km):
   • A demanding trail that offers a deeper immersion into Taman Negara’s ancient rainforest.
   • Requires several river crossings, steep ascents, and endurance over multiple days.
   • Ideal for those seeking an off-the-grid adventure with a longer, more scenic experience.
2. Merapoh Route (4-5 Days):
   • A shorter and more accessible route, though still physically challenging.
   • Recommended for hikers with limited time but looking for an equally rewarding experience.
