About this trip

Gunung Alai is known for its stunning sunrise views and breathtaking landscapes. The trail up Gunung Alai is well-maintained and offers hikers the convenience of four checkpoints.
The panoramic views from the peak include two adjacent tall mountains that create a striking contrast within the expansive landscape. For those who start their hike early, there’s a chance to witness a “cloud carpet” as clouds hang low over the surrounding terrain.
Given the varying terrains and potential challenges, it’s best to consider hiring a hiking guide when attempting the Gunung Alai hike. Also, you’ll need to obtain a hiking permit from the forestry department.

Itinerary

  • 8:00 PM: Gather at De Centrum, Kajang.
  • 9:00 PM: Pick up at LRT Bandar Tasik Selatan/LRT Gombak. Depart for Gerik.

  • 3:00 AM: Meeting Point at Gerik Bus Station (approximately 20 minutes from Gerik town). Proceed to the starting point at Padang Ragut, Kampung Alai (park your car there) for briefing and warm-up exercises.
  • 4:00 AM: Begin the ascent.
  • 4:30 AM: Checkpoint one.
  • 5:00 AM: Checkpoint two.
  • 5:30 AM: Checkpoint three.
  • 6:00 AM: Checkpoint four at Puncak Alai (free activities, including morning prayers).
  • 9:00 AM: Start descending to the parking area (estimated time: 1 hour 30 minutes).
  • 11:00 AM: Arrive at the parking lot. End of hiking activities. Freshen up and have a meal before heading back to Kuala Lumpur.
  • 8:00 PM: Arrive in Kuala Lumpur.
